South Beach is turning into Little Toronto. Planta, the latest import to open, shouldn’t be confused with Plant Miami at the Sacred Space in Wynwood, though both concepts focus on trendy, elevated, plant-based cuisine. Executive chef David Lee, who also helms the original, as well as Planta Burger back in Canada, created only-in-Miami dishes. Exclusive items include Trofie pasta, truffled mushroom Bolognese with almond parmesan; 6ix Pizza topped with roasted rosemary potatoes, kale and capers, and the South Pointe salad of spiralized zucchini, fennel and Florida citrus. He adds a unique, plant-based sushi bar here, too, for clever vegan versions of the fare. Watermelon and carrot stand in for ahi tuna and salmon, respectively. Shiso wraps and maki rolls are also available, but save room for avocado lime cheesecake.
